HPN Adventure project
Hello fellow 2-valvers,
Please excuse me writing in English but my German is non exixtent
I hope I have figured out how to use your forum. I am using Google Translate to try and understand what to do.
I have recently finished a restoration project which I would like to share. The full story can be found on the South African adventure riding site at this link
http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/index.php?topic=41149.0
South Africa has so much space for adventure riding, it should be a crime not to have a bike that can make the most of it
For me the old 2-valve airhead is the only bike to use for trip out into the middle of nowhere. Reliable and easy to repair in the field. When you combine that with modern White Power suspension you have what I believe is the ultimate bike
I have a long standing obsession with the Dakar rally so when I built this bike I decided to do it as a tribute to Gaston Rahier's '84 winning bike. Its not a strict replica obviously but it was more than a little inspired by some of the old pics I could find of the Penthouse bikes.
I have tried to attach a few pics, I hope it works

Hi Mike
Great work, nice bike and a nice story.
And it is nice to read that on the other side of the world other guys are just as crazy as we are.Mahlzeit

RE: HPN Adventure project
Welcome to the 2-valvers!
Nice to have another GS here.
Hi Mike,
here I have one shot of the HPN 102 starting 1986 in Versailles for the Rallye Paris Dakar.
The driver is Eddy Hau who finally placed on 8. position.
Gaston Rahier with HPN 101 was on 14. position.
At this Rallye the organizer Thierry Sabine and four others died in a helicopter crash.
And this was the last Rallye with the BMW factory team at that time.
But I think this facts are well known you.
btw.
I got to know South Africa at the region of Johannesburg. I had to work in Brits and I had some time to enjoy the great country.
