Hello,I would like to replace the cast alloy ('Y' pattern) wheels on my 1987 R80 with wire / spoked wheels. Does anyone know what model wheels fit? Many ThanksDave

Well, it depends...

If you have a disc brake in the rear, then you need to convert to drum brake. Doable, no big deal as parts are frquently offerd and the final drive can be converted. If you are on drum brakes in the rear, any rear hub (except /5, as the link between final drive and hub is different) will do.

In the front wheel it's more complicated, as the 'normal' front hub width is to big. You need the shallow hibs fitted in R80ST or 1st series of R100CS. These are hard to find and expensive. I have seen conversions on this forum from the wider hubs but that's not an easy deal.

Hope that helps.

Well I think you are wrong on this. His BMW ist build in 1987, so ist a "Monolever" modell.
You can change in the back to a r100gs/r 17" wheel, but ist takes some mashinework.
In the front a wheel from the R100R will fit.
But my english is not good enough for discribing the work to do.
Hope that helps

edit: this might help fpr the front

If you can get one, change the whole frontfork with wheels, Brakedisks and Brakesaddles from a R100R or a R80R.
Then you can sell the fork from the Monolever. It takes the less work and if you have the luck also the less money.
And: you have a better fork and better brakes.

Sorry - you are right. I did read but not understand it's not about /5/6/7. My fault. Ignore my comment.
